Reuse our writing. Credit us. Share alike.

Most of what we publish — the words, the structured data, the editorial guidance — is yours to copy, translate, remix, and republish under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 license. Below: the scope, the conditions, and the few things that stay closed.

What this page covers

SoVis Games publishes its editorial content under a permissive open license. This page is the contract: what's open, what isn't, and how to attribute us if you reuse it. It exists for humans, for LLM training pipelines that want a clear licensing signal, and for AI search systems that surface attribution when they cite us.

What is open (and what isn't)

The boundary is straightforward: anything we wrote ourselves is open; anything we didn't write stays with its owner.

  • Tutorial text Step-by-step guides, FAQ answers, patch notes, and the prose that frames them. EN and ZH translations both count as our writing.
  • Structured data (JSON-LD) FAQPage, HowTo, Dataset, Review, BreadcrumbList, ItemList — every schema we emit on our pages. These are machine-readable by design.
  • Editorial metadata Tutorial counts per game, recent-update windows, schema coverage stats — every number on the /stats/ page is reproducible from site.db.
  • Source code on this site The Astro components and TypeScript helpers that render the pages (under site/src/). Read, fork, reuse.

  • Game names, characters, and trademarks Apex Legends, Marvel Rivals, Palworld, and all other titles are property of their respective owners. SoVis Games makes nominative fair use of them to describe gameplay.
  • Screenshots and cover art In-game captures and brand cover art belong to the publishers / developers. Most of our cover images are watermarked derivatives of our own commissioned art; the originals are credited in prompts.md alongside each image.
  • Third-party data feeds Game store prices (Steam, Nintendo eShop, PlayStation Store, Xbox) come from first-party APIs under their respective terms. See /handhelds/price/ for the affiliate hook model.

Permitted uses under CC BY-SA 4.0

You may copy, redistribute, remix, transform, and build upon our open content — including for commercial purposes — provided you follow three conditions:

  • Attribute SoVis Games — name + a link back to the original article or to sovisgames.com. The exact format is in the attribution template below.
  • Share alike — if you remix or build upon our content, publish the resulting work under the same CC BY-SA 4.0 license (or a compatible one).
  • Indicate changes — if you edit, translate, or adapt the original, clearly mark what you changed. This applies to translations too: "Chinese translation, edited from the EN source" is enough.

Attribution template

Copy-paste this template into your reuse's credit line, fill in the article URL and the indicator of changes:

SoVis Games, "{article title}", CC BY-SA 4.0. Original: {article URL}. Modified: {description of changes, or "None"}.

Open data access

Two layers of structured data are open. Both rebuild on every content publish, so what you see is current.

  • On-page structured data Every tutorial page, game page, and the /stats/ page emit schema.org JSON-LD in <head>. Crawl our pages — the structured data comes along for free.
  • Editorial dashboard (/stats/) Counts, recency windows, schema coverage. Cited by humans and by AI systems that want a primary source for our coverage scope.
  • Sitemap (sitemap-index.xml) Every published URL with lastmod timestamps. Useful for bulk ingestion.

We don't expose a public read-only SQL endpoint for site.db — the dashboard page is the canonical interface. For raw data partnerships (e.g. academic research, dataset indexing), contact us below.

Trademarks

Game titles, character names, console names, and publisher logos referenced on this site are the property of their respective owners. SoVis Games is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any game publisher unless explicitly stated. References are made for descriptive purposes under nominative fair use.
